Biography

Gokul Bakshi is a multidisciplinary artist and educator from New Delhi, India. His research focuses on challenging the quotidian object and playing with familiarity in form and function. Gokul's process is a dance between deliberation and discovery. He translates force and action through materials, reflecting upon the choices we take in our lives. We rise, we play, we work hard, we practice, we shine, we burn, we repair, we fixate, we gather together, we nurture, we move on. Through it all, we find meaning and purpose.

Gokul studied Sculpture at Skidmore College and earned a degree of Masters in Fine Arts, Metal at the State University of New Paltz, New York in 2024.

At SUNY, Gokul has been an instructor of record  as well as a graduate student assistant technician to Adam Mastropaolo in the metal department. Gokul has also taught metalsmithing at Snow Farm Centre for Craft.

In 2018, Gokul established Metalurso, a jewelry production and design studio that was dedicated to merging a studio arts practice with the practice of local production jewellers in New Delhi. Gokul spent 4 years developing a jewelry brand which held a making practice at its core.

His work has been exhibited at several international venues including the Pratt Institute (Brooklyn, NY), The Tang Museum of Art (Saratoga Springs, NY) and the Boulder Box Gallery (New Delhi, India). His sculptures can be found on the Skidmore College campus today.
